Dear Emmy Gracie Girl –
Tonight while tucking you in I said, “When you wake up you’ll be a kindergartener!”
And you told me, “Mama, I’m just too excited to go to sleep.”
Of course not even ten minutes later, I was not surprised to see that you were, in fact, sound asleep.
As I watched you sleeping, dreaming of your exciting day tomorrow, I realized – whew, we did it! We made it to possibly the biggest milestone of your short five years of life. I also realized that after nurturing and protecting you under my “wing” for these past five years, tomorrow is the day we have to let you “fly.”
I know you went to preschool, but maybe because it wasn’t mandatory, or part of a “school system,” it kind of felt like we just dropped you off for a playdate, or a craft class, a few times a week.
But kindergarten! Tomorrow is really the first day of what will (hopefully) be a very successful school career. It is a big step for you, and a big step for mommy, too.
I’m so very excited for you. I cannot wait to watch you learn and satisfy that never-ending curiosity of yours. I just know this year is going to be so fantastic for you.
Test your wings, little birdy.
