Crafty Tuesday

So, we are going to do today’s Crafty Tuesday a little differently. Partly because even though our Crafty Party last week was totally fun, I didn’t get any real crafting done, and I don’t have anything to show today.Β  But mostly because I was reading Swistle last week and wanted to get in on her idea for some giveaways to raise awareness on the CPSIA issue.

The CPSIA legislation doesn’t directly affect me since I don’t sell any of my goods. But it could seriously hurt my Etsy addiction, and the world of handmade crafts in general. I know that many of you have already joined me in signing the petitions and writing your congressmen and women, I just ask that you continue your support. And proof that every signature and letter helps – last week the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission voted to suspend the act for one year to review the rules and how they will enforce it. Good news for all crafty folks and hopefully a reasonable solution will be found.

So on to the giveaway! I will craft a custom bag for the winner. It can be a kidlet for your kiddie, or a reusable shopping bag for yourself. Leave a comment and promise that you will at least click the “Save Handmade” button over there on the right (see it?) and see if there is something you might be able to do to help.

That’s it! I’ll leave the comments open until Sunday, February 8th at midnight. Then I’ll randomly select a winner and we’ll collaborate to get you a sweet bag!

I love the bags you make! And, I just found Etsy so I don’t want anything to happen to it!

Thanks for the chance to win!

SO glad the CPSIA crisis is averted or at least poseponed for another year. I love the bags you make and it’s so nice of you to do the giveaway anyway!

Interesting….I noticed the button on your page yesterday but didn’t have time to click there. This is all new(s) to me.
Seems like a better option that going after the crafters and end stage products would be to go after the crafting materials themselves. If you can show that you purchased paint/ink xyz that has already been proven to be safe – then you can make your treasures. That seems to make more sense to me. I could be way off base especially since this whole topic is new to me and I haven’t read that much on it yet.
But that would protect the crafters in the middle….and get rid of unsafe materials…….

    hmmm…definitely food for thought!

And how nice of you to do a giveaway!

Good for you, Carrie! I was so glad to hear that it’s at least been delayed a year. I just added the button to my blog, too. Let’s make our voices heard!

And you know I want in on the giveaway. πŸ™‚

Thanks so much for raising awareness on this issue. I am going to add the button to my blog too.

I blogged about that today, too! In this economy that law was going to put much hardship on crafsters that needed that extra income. Hopefully the law changes and puts the onus on testing to the suppliers. I wrote to my state rep, but I can’t write to my senator just yet. That’s still up in the air. πŸ˜‰

I am glad that this is being extended. There are so many people that are affected by this. Thanks for the giveaway. I am glad that you have the opportunity to continue your trade.

  13. 13 Dawn February 3, 2009 at 8:34 am

Yay for you! I’m in! Good news about the delay…Etsy is fantastic, one of my goals this year is to buy b-day gifts from Etsy. I just have to refrain from buying things for myself at the same time πŸ˜‰ It’s all so fantastic!

I will add the button as well and will educate myself more about what I can do to help~

  14. 14 Melissa February 3, 2009 at 10:02 am
